Jesus is the Fullfillment of the New Covenant

Heb 8:10 FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS IN THEIR MIND AND WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. Heb 8:11 NONE OF THEM SHALL TEACH HIS NEIGHBOR, AND NONE HIS BROTHER, SAYING, ‘KNOW THE LORD,’ FOR ALL SHALL KNOW ME, FROM THE LEAST OF THEM TO THE GREATEST OF THEM. Heb 8:12 FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.”

Heb 8:13 In that He says, “A NEW COVENANT,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. Question: What was New, and what was obsolete and vanishing away, and what common thing is required in both? Let’s start with what common principle is required of both? Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “AND WAS NOT FOUND, BECAUSE GOD HAD TAKEN HIM”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Rom 3:1 What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? Rom 3:2 Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God. Rom 3:3 For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Rom 3:4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND MAY OVERCOME WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED.”

What is common since the dawn of creation is this: Without faith it is impossible to please God! Faith to obey for good things; as well as Faith to obey to avoid bad things…

Gen 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; Gen 2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” Gen 3:2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; Gen 3:3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” Gen 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. Gen 3:5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Gen 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Gen 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

What is New? Col 1:24 I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, Col 1:25 of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, Col 1:26 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. Col 1:27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Where did this principle come from?

So don’t think of the New Covenant as a restoration to former things! The New Covenant does not restore us to Adam’s condition, it is vastly superior to Adam’s pre-sin condition! Adam was morally neutral…. Cookies… All who accept Christ and exist in the New Covenant are NOT neutral, for God has written His laws on our hearts, and filled us with the Holy Spirit. We are NEW creatures in Christ Jesus.

2Co 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Gal 6:13 For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.

The New Covenant is not a restoration, it is so much more.

1Jn 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 1Jn 3:3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

So what is obsolete and passing away?

Heb 9:1 Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary. Heb 9:2 For a tabernacle was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, the table, and the showbread, which is called the sanctuary; Heb 9:3 and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All, Heb 9:4 which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant; Heb 9:5 and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. Heb 9:6 Now when these things had been thus prepared, the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle, performing the services. Heb 9:7 But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance; Heb 9:8 the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.

Heb 9:9 It was symbolic parabolē par-ab-ol-ay’ From G3846; a similitude (“parable”), that is, (symbolically) fictitious narrative (of common life conveying a moral), apoth gm or adage: – comparison, figure, parable, proverb.

Hos 12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

Heb 9:9 It was symbolic (a parable, or similitude) for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience— Heb 9:10 concerned only with foods and drinks, various washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.

The Law, (Old Covenant) was symbolic fleshly ordinances imposed (for the purpose of demonstrating what was to come in Christ), until the time of reformation. Until= mechri mechris mekh’-ree, mekh-ris’ From G3372; as far as, that is, up to a certain point (as preposition of extent [denoting the terminus, whereas G891 refers especially to the space of time or place intervening] or conjugation): – till, (un-) to, until. The time= kairos kahee-ros’ Of uncertain affinity; an occasion, that is, set or proper time: – X always, opportunity, (convenient, due) season, (due, short, while) time, a while. Compare G5550. Of reformation= diorthōsis dee-or’-tho-sis From a compound of G1223 and a derivative of G3717, meaning to straighten thoroughly; rectification, that is, (specifically) the Messianic restoration: – reformation.

The Old Covenant with its fleshly ministry was imposed by God as a symbol of what was to come until the fixed time when Christ would come, and the Old Covenant would terminate with Christ’s restoration/reformation of all things under the New Covenant!

When does this restoration occur? Final or ultimate completion: See Acts 3:18-26 Individual; Where are you?

Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, Eph 2:5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), Eph 2:6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Eph 2:7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, Eph 2:9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Rom 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Rom 5:2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

If we are seated with Christ, we ARE at peace with God! Just as there is no barrier between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, since we are seated with Him, there is therefore no barrier between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and us!

The believers time of restoration is NOW! BECAUSE: Heb 9:11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Heb 9:12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

Mat 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Mat 26:27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. Mat 26:28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Mat 26:29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
