Zechariah Sermon Series
Zechariah, a prophet, Levite, and priest, wrote during the time of the Israelites’ return from Babylonian exile, around 520 BC. The Babylonian captivity lasted 70 years and was a consequence of the Israelites’ disobedience to God, specifically their refusal to observe the Sabbath year. Zechariah’s prophetic ministry began as the Israelites were rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem under challenging conditions.
In the opening verses of Zechariah 1, God speaks to the Israelites, urging them to return to Him so that He may return to them. This message reflects God’s desire for His people to repent and turn away from the sins of their ancestors, who had ignored the warnings of the prophets, leading to their captivity.
Zechariah’s ministry is marked by a series of visions and prophecies that span from the time of the Israelites’ return to Jerusalem up to the end times. His writings emphasize the importance of spiritual revival, repentance, and the hope of God’s ultimate restoration of Israel through the coming Messiah. The book of Zechariah is rich in messianic prophecies, presenting Jesus as the coming King, the Shepherd, and the fulfillment of God’s promises to His people.
