ISAAC’S COME TO JESUS MOMENT

[Genesis 28:1-2 NKJV] 1 Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him: “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. 2 “Arise, go to Padan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father; and take yourself a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother.

  • As Pastor Martin and I have stated, Isaac knows that trying to bless Esau was against God’s will.

[Gen 27:33 NKJV] 33 Then Isaac trembled exceedingly, and said, “Who? Where [is] the one who hunted game and brought [it] to me? I ate all [of it] before you came, and I have blessed him–[and] indeed he shall be blessed.”

  • Isaac trembled [in Hebrew ‘Hared’ means to tremble, quake, be afraid, be startled, be terrified] exceedingly, it hits him right in his face trying to bless Esau goes against God. We should have the same reaction as Isaac when we are against the will of God, better yet before we are out of the will of God. The problem with the world today is they believe the big lie. Satan has made sin acceptable, permissible, normal, pleasurable, convenient, your right, it’s legal, ETC. This happens in the Church also!!! What we have learned by reading about the lives of the fathers of the faith sin has consequences. When we are out of God’s will we are believing the big lie.

[Genesis 3:1-4 NKJV] 1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 “but of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

  • When the world is caught up in sin it is bad, but what would you expect from the world? They need Jesus!!! People don’t change without Jesus!!! Sin is also rampant in the Church that it is sad!!!
  • In the next passage Isaac formally transferred the blessing from God to Jacob that he received from God.

[Genesis 28:3-4 NKJV] 3 “May God Almighty bless you, And make you fruitful and multiply you, That you may be an assembly of peoples [Israel]; 4 And give you the blessing of Abraham, To you and your descendants with you, That you may inherit the land In which you are a stranger, Which God gave to Abraham.”

  • Jacob obeys his father and mother start the journey to Padan Aram

[Genesis 28:5 NKJV] 5 So Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Padan Aram, to Laban the son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau.

  • Esau is still trying to get back in favor with his father.

[Gen 28:6-9 NKJV] 6 Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Padan Aram to take himself a wife from there, [and that] as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,” 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and had gone to Padan Aram. 8 Also Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please his father Isaac. 9 So Esau went to Ishmael and took Mahalath, the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife in addition to the wives he had.

  • Esau goes to take a bride from Ishmael trying to win the favor of his father Isaac again!!!
  • To win God’s blessing back, maybe believing that Isaac would rescind the blessing to Jacob, curse Jacob and then bless him. [MY OPINION] I say this because we know that Esau despised his birthright Genesis 26:33!!!
  • Second is we have already seen that Esau had no regard for the will of God. Knowing that God wanted them not to take wives from the daughters of Canaan. He wanted God’s blessing, not God’s will, but his will be done.
  • Esau is like the people of today; they want all the blessings from God, but don’t want God to rule over their lives. Non-believes, believe they have a right to go to heaven, after all they believe that their “Good Person”, 1/3 of senior pastors in America believes you can work your way to heaven, EXPLAIN. Pew’s Research latest poll said that Christianity is in decline in America. I say God is doing a work in the United States He is separating the Church, the true Bride of Christ from the professing church. We are seeing buildings filling up with Christians who want to hear the Word of God being Proclaimed vs them attaining a place where their ears are tickled.

[Luke 19:11-14 NKJV] 11 Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately. 12 Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. 13 “So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’ [The KJV ‘occupy till I come’] 14 “But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this [man] to reign over us.’

  • Jacob obeys his father and mother and goes to his mother’s brother [Laban] house.

[Genesis 28:10-12 NKJV] 10 Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones from that place and put it on his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. 12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder [was] set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

  • I believe this was the first time Jacob had been away from his family/security unit and I can imagine Jacob that had little anxiety/fear. Remember he is traveling alone, that in itself would be dangerous enough with bandits and the elements.
  • Jacob has a dream/vision to see a ladder from earth to heaven. Question is, was it a Ladder? The word in Hebrew is Sullam which means Ladder or Stair case. This word is used one time in the Bible which is in this verse.
  • Sometimes the word of God
  • Jacob sees angels of God ascending and descending on it. Where is Heaven and is Heaven a real place? Yes, heaven is a real place. Heaven is wherever God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are. We first find out about heaven in the book of Genesis 1:1. The Bible says “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” There are different dimensions of heaven. We see the sky as heaven. If we go beyond the earth’s stratosphere, that is another heaven. I believe that Heaven is in another dimension!!! Explain. You can’t get there on your own, in a spaceship, in an airplane, in a car, you can’t use Google maps or your GPS to find it. There is only one way there, one truth, and one life that is faith in JESUS CHRIST, who is THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE.
  • The word doesn’t tell why God showed Jacob these angels going up and down from Heaven to earth. I believe it is no accident that God shows this to Jacob right before He transfers the promise to him. I believe God shows Jacob that He is sovereign and only God can fulfill the Abrahamic COVENANT and PROMISE.
  • Let’s talk a little bit about angels. First we need to know we don’t ever worship angels!!! In Revelation 19 & 22 we were told by an angel not to worship them.

[Revelation 19:10 NKJV] 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See [that you do] not [do that]! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

They Announce God’s Law,

[Hebrews 2:1-2 KJV] 1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let [them] slip. 2 For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward;

They Convey God’s Messages

[Daniel 10:4-14 NKJV] 4 Now on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, that [is], the Tigris, 5 I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist [was] girded with gold of Uphaz! 6 His body [was] like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude. 7 And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great terror fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. 8 Therefore I was left alone when I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; for my vigor was turned to frailty in me, and I retained no strength. 9 Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard the sound of his words I was in a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground. 10 Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and [on] the palms of my hands. 11 And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling. 12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13 “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. 14 “Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision [refers] to [many] days yet [to come].”

They Protect God’s People

[Daniel 12:1 NKJV] 1 “At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands [watch] over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, [Even] to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, Everyone who is found written in the book.

They Inflict Divine Penalties

[2Kings 19:35-36 NKJV] 35 And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the LORD went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when [people] arose early in the morning, there were the corpses–all dead. 36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went away, returned [home], and remained at Nineveh.

They are Ministering Spirits

[Matthew 18:10 NKJV] 10 “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.

[Hebrews 1:13-14 KJV] 13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Gather the Elect

[Matthew 24:31 NKJV] 31 “And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

  • God transfers the Abrahamic covenant and promise to Jacob, the covenant He swore by Himself.

[Genesis 28:13-15 NKJV] 13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: “I [am] the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. 14 “Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. 15 “Behold, I [am] with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”

  • The verses above show us the mercy of God, God is faithful even after the conniving and lying behavior of Jacob and Rebekah. Is God condoning this behavior ABSOLUTELY NOT! As Pastor Martin mentioned last week Jacob’s consequences for sin lasted 20 years, where he was conned by a better con artist. Laban cons Jacob out of twenty of his life.
  • God’s unconditional covenant to Abraham, is not based on their work. Like our salvation is not based on our works, rather it is 100% on the finished work of the cross by Jesus!!!
  • LET’S READ IT.

[Genesis 12:2-3 NKJV]

[Genesis 22:14-18 NKJV] 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said [to] this day, “In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided.” 15 Then the Angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, 16 and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the LORD, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only [son]– 17 “blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which [is] on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. 18 “In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice. “

  • God transfers the Abrahamic covenant and promise to Isaac.

[Genesis 26:2-5 NKJV] 2 Then the LORD appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. 3 “Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. 4 “And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; 5 “because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”

  • Jacob wakes up and the first thing he does is worship God!!!

[Genesis 28:16-18 NKJV] 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know [it].” 17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome [is] this place! This [is] none other than the house of God, and this [is] the gate of heaven!” 18 Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it.

  • The word afraid and awesome in Hebrew is yare – ‘yaw-ray’ to fear, reverence, honor, respect, to cause astonishment and awe, be held in awe. It is the word used in [Genesis 3:10 NKJV] 10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
  • Jacob is negotiating, Expain

[Genesis 28:19-22 NKJV] 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel [House of God]; but the name of that city had been Luz previously. 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, 21 “so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. 22 “And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.”

[Hosea 12:2-6 NKJV] 2 “The LORD also [brings] a charge against Judah, And will punish Jacob according to his ways; According to his deeds He will recompense him. 3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, And in his strength he struggled with God. 4 Yes, he struggled with the Angel and prevailed; He wept, and sought favor from Him. He found Him [in] Bethel, And there He spoke to us– 5 That is, the LORD God of hosts. The LORD [is] His memorable name. 6 So you, by [the help of] your God, return; Observe mercy and justice, And wait on your God continually.

[Psalm 46:1-11 NKJV] 1 To the Chief Musician. [A Psalm] of the sons of Korah. A Song for Alamoth. God [is] our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 [Though] its waters roar [and] be troubled, [Though] the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah 4 [There is] a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy [place] of the tabernacle of the Most High. 5 God [is] in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn. 6 The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. 7 The LORD of hosts [is] with us; The God of Jacob [is] our refuge. Selah 8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, Who has made desolations in the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire. 10 Be still, and know that I [am] God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! 11 The LORD of hosts [is] with us; The God of Jacob [is] our refuge. Selah
