Love

Good almost Christmas morning to you. I would imagine today will be a day of scurrying around, getting last minute details completed for Christmas day. Stop. Prioritize this quiet moment as a crucial detail for your preparation and ponder the Psalm below. This detail is too important to miss.

“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever” Psalm 89:1 is a lovely sentiment but an utterly hopeless proposition if you have not made Jesus Christ your Lord. Singing forever of God’s great love, Jesus, the greatest love ever given, is impossible for those who have not accepted this eternal gift.  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).  Love, Jesus, and eternal life can not be separated.  You can’t have either love or eternal life without having Jesus first.  He came that you might have life and life abundantly.  This life that He promises begins the moment you accept Him as Lord and Savior and will continue forever.  Forever Love.  Forever Life.  Forever Jesus.

Christmas without these three, Jesus, love, and eternal life is a celebration in futility.  There is nothing to show for it when all the food is eaten and the dishes are stacked in the sink, the gifts are unwrapped and neglected on the floor and the temporary happiness begins to fade.  Christmas is only a day of festivity with friends and family if Jesus is not the reason for the day.  It is a speck on the eternal timeline, without meaning or purpose, soon to be forgotten, when the wrappings are taken to the curb and the grind of life picks up again.

Each of us yearns for what the promise of Christmas holds, but without holding onto the Promise of Christmas, we will find the day empty, and worse, we will be lost eternally separated from this Love.  Don’t let this moment in time pass without evaluating your life.  Do you know if you will be singing of God’s great love forever or will you be forever cut off from the Jesus, whom we honor on Christmas day?

Psalm 89:1-4, 19-26

I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.
I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant,
‘I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.
Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said:
“I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have raised up a young man from among the people.
I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him.
My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him.
The enemy will not get the better of him; the wicked will not oppress him.
I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries.
My faithful love will be with him,and through my name his horn will be exalted.
I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers.
He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.’
And I will appoint him to be my firstborn,  the most exalted of the kings of the earth.
I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail.
I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure.
